1st U.S. President
Who was George Washington?
President George Washington's ancestry includes many colonial and English ancestors that are shared with many of his fellow Americans, such as General Robert E. Lee.
Among those ancestors are many Kings and Queens of England. One of the biggest and most famous, the "Holy Grail" of genealogy, is Charlemagne (742-814 A.D.), the king who is considered the "Father of Europe."
Another is Alfred the Great. As a fan of historical novelist Bernard Cornwell, I took special pleasure in reading his historical novel The Last Kingdom, which is the first in his Saxon series about 9th century England and King Alfred. Some of the key players from the book can be found among Washington's forebears. Perhaps your ancestor is among them.
Please note: The ancestor reports on this website have been compiled from hundreds of different sources, many over 100 years old. These sources are attached to each ancestor so that you can personally judge their reliability. As with any good genealogical research, if you discover a link to your own family tree, consider it a starting point for further research. It is always preferable to locate primary records where possible. FamousKin.com cannot and does not guarantee the accuracy and reliability of these sources.
