  • A story is told about how John Dean had been hunting in the woods alone. He perceived through some bushes several Indians cautiously approaching evidently with the intention of either killing or capturing him, and the thought suddenly came to him that he would make it appear as though he was in company with a number of others. This he did by exclaiming loudly "Rush on boys and we'll have them" at the same time firing his gun and rushing forward. The strategem succeeded and the Indians scattered permitting him to return home unmolested.
