    • Although some published sources give Bancroft, Cuming County, Nebraska, as the birth place of Stella Barber, her daughter Leila gave it as Lyons, Burt County, Nebraska, on her application to the Daughters of the American Revolution (D.A.R.). At the time of her birth, Bancroft did not exist as a town and Lyons was probably the closest town just over the county border. In 1880, Stella's parents deeded 80 acres of their property to the Sioux City and Nebraska Railway which became the town of Bancroft. So Stella was born in Cuming County near what is now Bancroft, Nebraska.
