  • Sarah's maiden name is said to have been the daughter of Joseph and Mary (Caldwell) Gilpin, but no evidence has been found to support this. Joseph Gilpin and his wife Mary are known to have had 12 children, of which Sarah is not one. A 2nd great-grandson of Sarah's was named Gilpin South (b. 1859), but he is so far removed from Sarah that he should not be used as supporting evidence.
