Short Story Writer
William Sydney Porter's middle name is also seen as Sidney.
The Travis County marriage record, which was recorded four months after the wedding, incorrectly states that William Porter and Athol Estes married 05 JUL 1887. However, the Sidney and Ruth Coffin (Worth) Porter Family Tree gives the dates as 01 JUL 1887. This latter date is confirmed by the wedding notice that appeared the next day, 02 JUL 1887, in the Austin American-Stateman newspaper.
William Sydney Porter can be found in the 1900 federal census a prisoner at the penitentiary in Columbus, Ohio, were he was serving a sentence for embezzlement.
