Angela Davis is a civil rights activist, scholar, and author born on January 26, 1944, in Birmingham, Alabama, USA. She grew up in a neighborhood known as "Dynamite Hill" due to frequent bombings of Black homes by the Ku Klux Klan. Davis attended Brandeis University, where she studied philosophy and French and was a member of the Communist Party.

Davis became involved in various civil rights and social justice causes, including the Black Panther Party, and she quickly became a prominent figure in the movement. In 1970, she was charged with murder, kidnapping, and conspiracy in connection with a courtroom shootout that resulted in the death of a judge. After fleeing from authorities and being placed on the FBI's Ten Most Wanted List, Davis was captured and tried in a highly publicized trial. She was acquitted of all charges in 1972.

Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, Davis continued to work as an activist, advocating for prison reform, women's rights, and racial justice. She taught at several universities, including the University of California, Santa Cruz, and is the author of several books, including "Women, Race, and Class," "Are Prisons Obsolete?," and "Freedom Is a Constant Struggle: Ferguson, Palestine, and the Foundations of a Movement."
