      Ann M. Martin, born on August 12, 1955, in Princeton, New Jersey, is a celebrated American author best known for her highly popular series, The Baby-sitters Club. The series, which began in 1986, chronicles the adventures and challenges of a group of young girls running a babysitting business. It became a cultural phenomenon, spawning over 200 books, multiple spin-offs, a TV series, and a movie.

      Martin's passion for writing began in childhood, inspired by her love of books and storytelling. She earned a degree in elementary education from Smith College and initially worked as a teacher and editor before embarking on her writing career.
