  • Edward Dean's wife Mercy Pratt is often listed as the mother of all of his children. However, since Mercy died in 1754, she could not have been the mother of all of his children and he must have had a second wife. Unfortunately, much of the information for this family comes from the bible of his son James Dean (b. 1762). Although the bible lists the death of James's father Edward in 1791, it does not list the death of James's mother. More research is needed to identify the second wife of James. A clue might lie in the death record of Mary "Mollie" Dean who died 09 AUG 1770 in the 14th year of her age. Although she was allegedly born 2 years after Mercy (Pratt) Dean's death, her gravestone apparently listed her as the daughter of “Edward and Marcy Dean.” Perhaps Edward's second wife was also named Mercy or Marcy.
