    • Sources disagree on who Joshua Hood's parents were with three different scenarios being proposed.

Dellmann O. Hood in his book The Tunis Hood Family claimed that Joshua Hood was the son of Rev. William Hood and his wife Elizabeth. Other researchers identify his wife as Elizabeth “Betsy” Morgan. Dellmann Hood speculates that it is this Elizabeth who appears with her daughter Kelley (Hood) Williams in the 1860 census for North Carolina.

According to Dellmann Hood, one of the brothers of Joshua Hood is Charles Buren Hood. There are claims by some that Charles indicated in an autobiographical sketch that his parents were William Hood and Cecelia Quinn. I have not seen a copy of this autobiography. Also it is reported that Cecelia's father was a John Quinn who reportedly left property to his daughter Ceily Hood, wife of William Hood, in a 1829 will in St. Clair County, Alabama. I have not seen a copy of this will.

Finally, some researchers believe that Joshua Hood is the son of James and Margaret Hood. They point out that Joshua was living next door to James's widow Margaret in 1850 and that in the 1880 census, Joshua's mother is indicated as having been born in Georgia. This appears to be consistent with the birthplace of Margaret.

At this time, the parents of Joshua should be considered unknown. Hopefully a deed, will, probate or some other record will be found in the future that may shed more light on this family.
