  • Mary Strother was the half-sister to William Strother of Westmoreland County, Virginia. William is often referred to as of Nomini due to his land being along the Nomini River. William did not have children. After he died, his half-sister Mary Strother and her husband John Settle brought suit against William's widow and her second husband Samuel Baker for Mary's share of the estate.

    Mary is said by some sources to be the daughter of William Strother and Dorothey Savage. This does not appear to be correct as their son William Strother Jr. married Margaret Thornton and had issue. Mary's half-brother William did not have any issue. William and Mary are believed to be the children of William Strother who settled in Westmoreland County as early as 1655 and died there in 1687.
