    Online family trees often state Marcy/Mercy Cady was born at Killingly, Connecticut 23 AUG 1729, daughter of Stephen and Abigail (Lee) Cady, when that claim is so easily disproved.

    Marcy Cady, wife of Jonathan Eddy, was aged 87 at her death in 1837, not 108 years old, placing her birth around 1750 and not 1729. Her age comes from the inscription on her tombstone. The age at death is often incorrect, but not by 20 years or more.

    Also, it is highly doubtful that Marcy was 41 years old and 15 years senior to her husband Jonathan (b. 1744) age 26 when she married him in 1770.

     

    Finally, their youngest child Thankful Eddy was born in 1791, when Marcy would have been 62!

    Some people try to get around these problems by changing Stephen Cady's daughter Mercy's birth date to 1739 instead of 1729, but the Killingly, Connecticut vital records confirm her birth date as 23 AUG 1729.
