  • William Read's surname is also seen as Reed.

    William Read and his wife Mabel arrived in New England aboard the Defence in 1635.

    Some sources claim that William is the son of Sir Thomas Reed and Mary Cornwall. However, Robert Charles Anderson in his The Great Migration series suggests that William may have been from Newcastle-upon-Tyne as this is where William settled after returning to England.
