  • Just before her wedding to Harold Morton, Dorothy Smith and her mother were stricken by a severe case of ptomaine poisoning (i.e. food poisoning) shortly after dinner. Her fiancee Harold broke into the house and discovered the two lying unconcious on the floor. A news paper article on the incident said the wedding was postponed until Christmas Day, but the marriage certificate shows that they actually got married on 23 DEC 1916.
