    Elijah Ferris's parentage is determined by comparing the two Ferris families in Geauga County, Ohio, by 1830. Those families were headed by John Ferris (b. New York) and Gilbert Jude Ferris (b. Connecticut).

    Gilbert Ferris moved his family from Otsego County, New York, to Geauga County, Ohio, in December of 1807. His known children born before that date were born in New York, while the children after that date were born in Geauga County, Ohio.

    Elijah Ferris was born in 1806 at New York. He is known to be a brother of John Ferris, and uncle of Henry C. Ferris. His brother John Ferris was born in 1810 at New York, well after the date that Gilbert Ferris had moved to Geauga County, Ohio. Therefore, Elijah Ferris is almost certainly the son of John Ferris and his wife Hannah Black.
