John Howard
- Notes:
James E. Moss, in his book Providence Ye Lost Towne at Severn in Maryland makes the claim that Matthew Howard was the son of Sir John Howard and Elizabeth Locke, and therefore a descendant of the 1st Duke of Norfolk. Other sources, while not outright saying he's wrong, dispute that he proved his case with one stating, "He failed to find all the desired proof" and , "This is heady stuff . . . what a pity absolute proof cannot be found!" (see Maryland and Virginia Colonials: Genealogies of Some Colonial Families, Vol. 1, published 1998, p. 354)
