- Notes:
aka Hero of Cat Island
Juan de Cuevas's given name is also seen as Jean, and his surname as Coueve, Quave, Quaive and Quaivie.
Juan de Cuevas became known as the Hero of Cat Island for his alleged resistance to help pilot the British invasion of New Orleans during the War of 1812, and the capture of pirates in 1821. Historian Paul E. Puebla has written that the former claim is simply a myth and provides evidence to disprove it.
