Daniel Tyler was an iron manufacturer and railroad president. As Brigadier General of the 1st Connecticut Infantry, he was one of the first Union Army generals of the Civil War. He founded the town of Anniston, Alabama, which was named for his daughter-in-law, and he is buried there in the Hillside Cemetery.
