    • The identity of Elizabeth Dillingham as the wife of John Wing Jr. is purely a circumstantial one. The list of circumstantial evidence is as follows:

The typescript "A Genealogy of the Dillingham Family of New England" by Phyllis Dillingham Archambault. On page 21 she lists the children of Edward Dillingham and his wife Ursula Carter. For daughter Elizabeth she states, "baptized 2 APR, 1616. She is mentioned in her grandfather's will (1624), but no record is found of her in America."

A little below the listing for Elizabeth is her sister Oseth, named for their grandmother, who married Stephen Wing, son of John and Deborah (Batchelder) Wing. In New England records Oseth is found as Oseah.

A good write up on John Wing Jr and his wife Elizabeth and their children can be found in "The Owl: Genealogical Quarterly Magazine" published by the Wing Family of America (1902, Vol. 8, No. 6, p. 60). The newsletter does not give any indication that Elizabeth, wife of John Wing Jr., is the same as Elizabeth Dillingham. However it does list their daughter Oseah who married Nathan Turner.

The New England Marriages Prior to 1700 list Elizabeth as "Elizabeth [?Dillingham]."

The book "A Historical and Genealogical Register of John Wing, of Sandwich, Mass., and His Descendants 1662-1881" by the Rev. Conway P. Wing (published in 1881), on page 46, only mentions that John Wing's first wife was named Elizabeth. The pages about John Wing mention his connections to the Dillingham family. It also mentions the Yarmouth record that states, "Jan. 31,1692 - The last of January, Old Goody Wing died." But it does not give any indication as to Elizabeth's maiden name.

So it would appear that the identification of Elizabeth, wife of John Wing Jr., as the daughter of Edward Dillingham is not proven. It has a strong circumstantial case supporting it based on the age of both Elizabeths, the close relationship of the Wing and Dillingham families, and the naming of daughters named Oseth or Oseah.
