  • Some published sources appear to confuse multiple generations of men named Walter Foss. This Walter is sometimes shown as having a wife named Lucy Hale. This appears to be due to confusing this Walter with his son by the same name who married Lucy Cook, daughter of Mercy (Hale) Cook. The younger Walter and his wife Lucy are said to have named a son Walter Hale Foss which may be the origin of giving Lucy the maiden name Hale.
