In 1944, Bradford was elected as the Lieutenant Governor of Massachusetts, serving under Governor Maurice J. Tobin. His tenure as lieutenant governor set the stage for his gubernatorial bid, and in 1946, he was elected Governor of Massachusetts. Bradford’s administration, from 1947 to 1949, was marked by significant reforms in state government. He championed mental health initiatives, leading to improved care and facilities.
