John Hayward's surname is also seen as Howard.
Based on his son Brooks Howard's Revolutionary War pension application, John may have lived in the following places: Nova Scotia, Canada (from about 1765 to 1768); Brookfield, Massachusetts (from about 1768 to sometime during the war), Royalton, Vermont (from sometime during the war until the close of the war). The son Brooks Howard then removed to Brookfield, Vermont, after the war and stayed there for about 12 years. The son then removed to Tunbridge, Vermont, where he apparently met his wife and stayed for about 18 years. He then removed to Bethany, New York, where he was living at the time he applied for his pension. It is not known whether his father followed him after the move to Royalton.
