- Notes:
The following circumstantial case has been made to identify the Freelove Swares, who married Edward Bliven, as the daughter of Peter Barker and Freelove Bliss (see New England Notes and Queries, Vol. 1, No. 1, p. 4):
- The identity of name, which is an unusual one.
- The bondsmen for the inventory at the death of Peter Barker in 1725 were Joseph Barker, his brother, and Edward Bliven. This is explained, if Edward was his son-in-law.
- The Barkers and Blivens were members of the same church, the Seventh Day Baptist Church of Westerly, Rhode Island.
- In the Bliven Burying Ground in Westerly were buried not only Edward Bliven, but John Barker and his wife and Peter Barker and his wife.
- The only other occurance of the name Swares was an Abigail Swares who married William Ross at Westerly, 25 OCT 1739. It is likely that Abigail was a daughter of Freelove and a first husband with the surname Swares.
