Since Jeanette's father, said to be a bellboy at the St. Regis Hotel in Cleveland, abandoned Jeanette and her mother shortly after she was born, it's likely Jeanette and her mother Nettie took Nettie's mother's name of Arnold as their own, causing confusion with James's last name.
