  • Although census records indicate he was born in Sutton, Canada, it has been claimed that Lawrence Salisbury was actually from the Mohawk Valley in New York, the son of Jasper Salisbury. The Salisburys apparently left New York for Canada due to their being Empire Loyalists and having their lands siezed. There is also a belief that the family was originally from Holland and their name was Van Salzbergen. Research is needed to support these claims.
