Veteran of the French and Indian Wars and is said to have been standing next to Gen. Wolfe when he was mortally wounded on the Heights of Abrahamin Quebec. He is said to have helped carry Gen. Wolfe off of the battlefield. He is also said to have saved Gen. Israel Putnam's life when he fell into a lake during a skirmish.
