    • Claude Mathias Phaneuf-Farnsworth was captured by a war party of Abenaki Indians in 1704. He was taken to Quebec and adopted by the Sulpicians who converted him to the Roman Catholic faith. He changed his name from Farnsworth to Phaneuf and nine years after his capture married Catherine Charpentier.
