Thankful Avery is identified as the daughter of John Avery and Sarah Denison in History of the Town of Stonington published in 1900. Other publications say she is the daughter of his brother Benjamin Avery and Sarah Denison. Since no birth record has been found for the latter, but one has been found for the former, it seems more likely she is the daughter of John Avery.
Some published sources give Thankful's age at death as over 100 which would be exaggerated if she was the daughter of John Avery.
