    • Capt. John Locke was killed by Indians while reaping grain in his field. After being shot and wounded, Capt. Locke is said to have struck one of his attackers with a sickle, partly cutting off his assailant's nose. Two sons with him hid and escaped.

      John Locke was killed by Indians on Dover Plains in 1696.
