Founder of the Parker Ranch in Hawaii
John Palmer Parker was a sailor who jumped ship at Hawaii in 1809. In the 1830s, he herded cattle for Kamehameha III. In 1847, he received two acres from Kamehameha III which was the beginning of the Parker Ranch that would grow to over 200,000 acres and still be run by the family in 1992. At that time it was said to be the largest cattle ranch in the United States under single ownership.
