War of 1812 veteran
Capt. Harris H. Hickman was taken a prisoner of war by the British at Detroit on 16 AUG 1812. He was paroled by the British in early 1814.
Capt. Harris Hickman was commander of the fort at Detroit in December of 1814.
The 26 DEC 1815 edition of the Buffalo Gazette contains a story about Capt. Hickman with regards to an encounter with the Indians at Detroit.
Harris Hickman's wife Ann B Hickman files for divorce in 1818 claiming desertion and adultery. Harris was practicing as an attorney in Camden, South Carolina at the time.
Harris Hickman probably died in South Carolina before the 1830 federal census as his wife is found as the head of household with a boy aged 5 to 10 years old. It is also possible that he abandoned his second wife just as he abandoned his first wife.
