      Jonas Galusha (1753-1834) was an American politician who served as the 6th Governor of Vermont from 1809 to 1813 and its 8th Governor from 1815 to 1820. Born in Norwich, Connecticut, Galusha moved to Shaftsbury, Vermont, in his early years, where he became a respected member of the community. He actively participated in the American Revolutionary War, fighting in the Battle of Bennington, and later pursued a career in politics.

      Galusha's political journey began when he was elected to the Vermont House of Representatives in 1787. He went on to serve multiple terms in the state legislature, gaining a reputation for his integrity and dedication to public service. In 1809, he was elected as the Governor of Vermont, a position he held for four years. He was again elected as Governor of Vermont in 1815, a position he would hold for five years. During his tenure, he focused on issues such as education, infrastructure development, and the state's economy, leaving a lasting impact on Vermont's early development.
