  • The Mayflower Society silver book for Henry Samson (vol. 2, pt. 1, p. 17) gives the parentage of Bathsheba Stetson, wife of William Holmes, as Joseph and Hannah (Oldham) Stetson.

    Some claim that this Bathsheba Stetson was the daughter of Robert Stetson and Deborah Brooks. Another Bathsheba Stetson of about the same age married a Samuel Gardner in 1722, is said to be the daughter of Joseph and Hannah (Oldham) Stetson. However, one of the witnesses to this Bathsheba's will was a Joseph Stetson, possibly her younger brother of that name and son of Joseph and Hannah (Oldham) Stetson. No Joseph Stetson is found in the family of Robert Stetson and Deborah Brooks. Also, this Bathsheba Stetson died 30 MAR 1763 in her 70th year. This would place her birth between 31 MAR 1793 and 31 MAR 1794 which fits the birth date of 29 SEP 1693 for the daughter of Joseph and Hannah (Oldham) Stetson. If Joseph and Hannah's daughter was the one that married Samuel Gardner, she would have been 29 at the time of her first marriage versus 22 if she's the one who married William Holmes.

    The published Stetson Genealogy has both Bathsheba's but only through their births. No birthdate is given for the daughter of Robert and Deborah (Brooks) Stetson. Both parentage claims can be found in various published genealogies.
