Consider Atherton
- Notes:
Maj. Gen. Humphrey Atherton died on Boston Common after falling from his horse. He apparently had just conducted a military review on the Common. Although his death is recorded as 16 SEP 1661, a memorandum of Capt. John Hull made at the time says he died on the 17th after midnight about 1 am.
Although there are claims to the contrary, his origins and parentage are unknown. Also, there are claims that he came to New England aboard the James in 1635. Robert Charles Anderson does not include Atherton among the known passengers of the James. He lists Atherton as first appearing in New England in 1636.
