    • Notes:
    • In 1904 Henry R. Stiles listed the children of David Belden and Lois Wolcott incorrectly in his book Ancient Families of Wethersfield, Connecticut. In the book (p. 84), he list the parents as David Belden, son of Jonathan Belden, and Hepzibah Goodrich. Stiles acknowledges that son David may actually be the son of David Belden and Lois Wolcott, but he does not state this for the other children except Lois. Other sources clearly show that the sons Burrage, Asahel, Harvey, and David were brothers that all went to Ohio together. So their father must be the same David Belden. Also Stiles shows that David Belden, husband of Hepzibah Goodrich, died in 1785 at the age of 70. Clearly he was not the father of most of the children listed in his book as he was already dead when the majority of them were born.

David Belden is said to be the son of Asa Belden and Milly Butler. I have found references online that state that the children of Asa Belden, including David, are named in a deed of Asa's. I have not been able to find a copy of this deed. David's siblings are said to be Martha, Jeremiah, Rhoda, Lucy, and Anna. All are apparently mentioned in the deed.

There is a circumstantial case to be made for Asa Belden and Milly Butler being David Belden's parents. Four of the children of David Belden and Lois Wolcott appear to be named for their parents. There is son Josiah Wolcott Belden and Lois Belden, apparently named after Lois Wolcott's parents and maybe herself. There is also son Asa Belden and daughter Milly Belden, both appearing to be named after David Belden's parents. They also have a son David, named after his father. Tellingly there are no children named Jonathan or Hepzibah which were the parents assigned to David by Henry R. Stiles above. Asa Belden also died and is buried in Rocky Hill, Connecticut, where all of David Belden and Lois Wolcott's children were baptized.
