    • Joseph Sharp erected a forge and furnace in Sussex County, New Jersey, known as the Sharpsboro Iron Works. The village around the iron works became known as Sharpborough until being renamed Hamburg in 1795.

      Joseph Sharp was captured during the Revolutionary War and died aboard a prison ship in 1776.
