  • Astronaut Alan Shepard was the first American in space (Mercury - Freedom 7) and fifth person to walk on the moon (Apollo 14).

    Alan Shepard and his wife Louise died only five weeks apart. They were both cremated and their ashes were scattered over the water near their home in Pebble Beach. Forest Hill Cemetery in East Derry, New Hampshire, contains a cenotaph for the couple.
