  • The claims that the Martha Wilder who came from Shiplake, Oxfordshire, England, aboard the Confidence is the mother of Thomas Wilder are incorrect. A DNA study performed in 2010 and published in the New England Ancestors magazine solved the question once and for all. Thomas Wilder was not related to the Hingham and Shiplake Wilders and therefore could not be the son of Martha Wilder.
