Richard Belden is often claimed to be the son of Sir Francis Baildon of Kippax, Yorkshire. This has been proven to be false. (See TAG 2001, Vol. 76, pp. 20-28)
Richard Belden is now believed to be the son of Lawrence Beldon who had the only Belden family in Heptonstall around the time of Richard Belden's birth. (See TAG 2001, Vol. 76, pp. 122-128) Evidence is needed to confirm this.
Richard Belden's surname is also seen as Belding and Beldon.
