- Notes:
Last surviving member of the Grand Army of the Republic
Albert Woolson enlisted with the 1st Minnesota Volunteer Infantry Regiment on 04 OCT 1864 at the age of 17.
There are claims that Albert Woolson was actually born in 1850 based on the 1850 census giving his age as 6 months. However, most other evidence points to it being in 1847 or 1848. His enlistment record in 1864, his marriage in 1869, his death record, along with numerous birthday celebrations noted in the local newspapers over the years give more weight to the 1847 date being correct. It is possible that he could have lied at the time of his enlistment to appear older than he actually was, but I cannot reach this conclusion based solely on one census record.
