    • René LaBeau's surname is also seen as LaBo.

René Labeau and Jean-Baptiste Solo/Soleau were killed by Indians at Sandy Creek during the Battles of the River Raisin. They are buried at St. Antoine's Cemetery just behind the present day cross.

Some sources give René LaBeau's given name as Eatane, Achan, or Atiene. Vital records and newer published sources give it as René. It is believed that the incorrect name originated from a verbal account of the battles of the River Raisin by a Sandy Creek neighbor named Francis Gandon. He gave his account to James Godfrey, Monroe County Justice of the Peace in 1834. This was over 20 years later. He stated, “On the 18th of January Colonel Lewis came to River Raisin and drove the British and Indians from that place, and on passing this place, they shot two citizens, Eatane Labo and John Baptiste Soleau, and the only reason for doing it they said the young men asked them if they were running away from the Big Knives.”
