  • Mary Hatch's tombstone is often misread as having died in the “50” year of her age. It actually appears to be “30.” There is a crack leading from the right top of the 3 that makes it look like a 5. Closer examination shows the faint outline of the 3. However, if you believe that the tombstone does say 50 and accept that Mary is about 16 years older than her husband John, then it is possible that she is the daughter of Thomas Hatch and Sarah Elmes who was born 19 JAN 1668/9.
