In 1919, Victoria Pruchnicki was threatened by a judge to be charged with vagrancy if she did not remain at home and take better care of her children. He told her that a woman's place is at home with her children and not “gadding” about the city. Her husband John was arraigned before the judge and charged with violation of the compulsory education law.
