Sarah Fairbanks
- Notes:
Sarah's maiden name is often said to be Fiske and that she is the sister of Nathan Fiske. No evidence has been found to support the connection to Nathan Fiske. Examination of her maiden name in the the Dedham vital records does support her maiden name being Fiske.
Examinations by some researchers of the handwritten entry claim her maiden name begins with Fy, but our own examinations and comparisons with other entries on the page, especially that of Fisher and Clark a few lines below, come to the conclusion that Fiske is correct. It appears that the name may have been originally spelled with a capital S in Fiske, as was done in the name of Fisher below, but then an attempt was made to correct it to a small s with the larger S still partly visible behind it. In any case it does not appear to us to contain a Y. That conclusion uses what is obviously a small i and what was clearly at one time a capital S.
