  • Jekyll Catesby is believed to have been born about 1713 based on his age being given as 22 at the time of his marriage to Anne Godlee.

    Although no baptism record has been found for Jekyll, he is undoubtably the grandson of John Catesby and Elizabeth Jekyll, and probably the son of their son Jekyll Catesby. John and Elizabeth (Jekyll) Catesby had six sons, John, Jekyll, Samuel, Henry, Mark, and John. The first son named John died young and the last John was too young to be Jekyll Catesby's father. Samuel and Henry died before the age of five and therefore can be eliminated. Their son Mark Catesby, the famed naturalist, had only two children survive him, Mark and Anne. So that leaves son Jekyll as the probable father of Jekyll Catesby. The fact that he also named a child Jekyll lends support to this theory.
