- Notes:
The identification of Sarah Harmon's parents is based on circumstantial evidence. Census records for her children give her birth location as England, however the 1850 federal census for Chicago shows her birth location as France which would initially seem as wrong considering her English name. However, William and Phoebe Spencer living in Chicago were born in England, but married in Paris, France in 1825. William Harmon became a Mason while in Paris. Sarah was born in France about 1825. The lining up of dates and locations would seem to confirm that Sarah is the daughter of William and Phoebe Spencer. William Spencer died in Oregon in 1890. His probate file should be consulted as it may reveal more direct evidence of this relationship.
