Robert Calif, a merchant, had in 1700 published “More Wonders of the Invisible World,” the book which placed Cotton Mather in such an unenviable light, and threw such an illumination upon the Witchcraft delusion at Salem in 1692, that Increase Mather, then president of Harvard College, ordered a copy burned in the College yard. Calif had interfered with Mather's plans to reawaken in Boston, the excitement which had subsided at Salem. . . .
