    • Nantucket vital records, citing a private record source, gives Almira Barlow's birth date as "13th, 5 mo. 1823." This appears to have been deduced from the 1840 and 1850 Nantucket town census. Other sources including her tombstone, marriage and federal census records support the year of her birth as 1827. However, the 1830 Nantucket town census gives her birth date as 13 MAY 1826. Her sister Emeline's birth date appears in that record as 04 APR 1827 and her sister Rhoda as 15 JAN 1829. These would appear to be the correct dates and tend to rule out the other scenarios.
