Elizabeth Nimbs was born in Deerfield, Massachusetts, as Abigail Nims. She was captured as a child by the French in a raid on Deerfield in 1704 and renamed. She would later marry a fellow captive. In 1898, C. Alice Baker published an account of the "Two Captives."
Abigail Nims's maiden name is also seen as Nimes.
