Who was Alan Napier?
Alan Napier was an English actor who began his career on stage in West End theatre. He also performed in numerous British and American films from the 1930s to the 1960s, and in television in the 60s and 70s. However, it was one role in particular that Alan Napier is best remembered for, and that was as Alfred Pennyworth, the butler of Bruce Wayne (aka Batman) in the 1960s television show Batman. Alan Napier wrote his autobiography in the 1970s, but did not publish it at the time. Over two and a half decades after his death, the book was finally published in 2015 under the title Not Just Batman’s Butler.
