Who was Hal Holbrook?

Hal Holbrook was an American actor born on February 17, 1925, in Cleveland, Ohio. He grew up in South Weymouth, Massachusetts and attended Culver Academies in Indiana. He went on to study theater at Denison University in Granville, Ohio, where he developed his skills as an actor.

Holbrook's career in acting began in the 1950s and he became well-known for his one-man show, "Mark Twain Tonight!" in which he portrayed the famous American author and humorist. He continued to perform this show for over six decades and won a Tony Award for Best Actor in a Play in 1966 for his portrayal of Twain.

Holbrook also had a successful film and television career, with roles in films such as "All the President's Men," "Magnum Force," and "Into the Wild." He was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in the 2007 film "Into the Wild."

He passed away in Beverly Hills, California on January 23, 2021, at the age of 95.
